THE OTHER SHOE
is a Golden Slipper
The tensions of the recent political race, the stock market's jerkiness, and foreign instabilities have given rise to a present state of anxiety and worry among many of you individual business owners. There seems to be a lot of negative expectations out there. Combine this climate with a culture that generally seems to condition individuals to fear a “dropping of the other shoe”, and we are just cruising for a self-fulfilling bruising. Remember: As Ye Think, So Shall It Be.
“Murphy's Law (what can go wrong will)”, may be joked about freely and indulged in via desktop calendars and cartoons, but being part of this Murphy's club will create naught but headaches, wasted dollars and disappointment for you. Consider this: What if the other shoe is a Golden Slipper? That's right, not something onerous and crushing, but something of elegance and abundance an unexpected boon that actually supports your steps forward in life. What a novel idea!
If we are going to expect the other shoe to drop, why not imagine that other shoe as a Golden Slipper? Again, as ye think so shall it be. Besides, wouldn't it be more fun to think about all the good a golden slipper could bring? After all, worrying is really just a waste of time. There is no benefit in worry. If something is going to happen regardless of what you do, then worrying was a waste of time. If something is not going to happen regardless of what you do, then worrying was a waste of time. Either way, your worry was a waste of time. What might you have done with that wasted time and energy?
As you ponder the effects of the elections and pending social, economic and foreign policy decisions on your life or your business, how about replacing those Murphy's Law calendars with this:
“All unforeseen events in my life
become assets in my life.
The unknown is filled with opportunities for me.”
-Imara
Alternately,
“All unforeseen events become assets to my business.
The unknown is filled with opportunities for my company and career.”
-Imara
Until next time, may your life be filled with unexpected delights and golden slippers of opportunity.
