Through the pure crystal tones, as the sound affects brain wave activity, one can travel into an altered state of consciousness. As different parts of the brain are affected, it is probably that they release different hormones and neuro-chemicals which can suppress pain, strengthen willpower in one’s creative talents and overcome addictions. Eva Rudy Jansen, in her book Singing Bowls, documented the effect of Tibetan metal bowls; “It is possible to record the waves produced by singing bowls. It was found that among the wave patterns of different singing bowls there is a measurable wave pattern which is equivalent to the alpha waves produced by the brain. These bowls, in particular, instill a sense of deep relaxation and ‘inner space opening up.’ ”

- Use distilled water when making the above to eliminate the effects of mineral, chemical or sedimentary residues on your finished product or on your bowl.
- Experiment with sounding different bowls/musical notes in different combinations while making gem elixirs or flower essences.
- Use your own spiritual guidance and intuition when combining gems or flowers with the bowls and their musical notes/chakras. Experiment with different chakra bowls when making essences and elixirs. For example, violet tincture, essence or elixir made in a 6th chakra bowl is a totally different product than violet made in a 2nd chakra bowl; turquoise elixirs made in a 5th or Throat chakra bowl are different than those made in a 1st chakra bowl.
- Always take a moment to consecrate your intention and your space as you begin playing the bowls.
- Surround yourself with the purest of white light and affirm that you are only available to “the highest truth, wisdom and light.’
- You may also state “I play these bowls with the highest truth, wisdom and light.”
- Hold your striker upright for best resonance.

OH NO! Guilty Players Chip Your Bowl?
No worries. Take a fine grit piece of sand paper (or even an emory board from your manicure kit), cover your eyes, nose, mouth with appropriate protective mask/glasses, then sand smooth the chip so that no one cuts themselves in the future on its sharp edges.
Small chips on the rim of your bowl should not impair its playability. This chip shown here is bigger than most, thanks to the joyful romping and love of bowls shown by Magick Moonbeam (looking guilty on the left) and Kizmet (who says it was just destiny).
However, despite these two trying to play the bowls themselves by knocking them together, the bowl still plays just fine! -Imara
